Title

Interview with Saul Lerner

Subject

Saul Lerner arrived at Purdue University Calumet in September 1967 with five years of teaching already qualifying him as a “veteran.” He was attracted by the fact that the campus was much like his undergraduate school in that it provided educational opportunities for first generation and minority students. This was, he thought, more of an opportunity to help young people than continuing at his previous institution which served mostly the children of the wealthy. In more recent years his He was a member of the Council of Faculty Delegates and the Faculty Senate for 33 years (to 2005), served as Head of the Department of History and Political Science from 1974 to 1986, and Associate Dean of the Graduate School at PUC 1986-1991.
